A scooter that will not power up is alarming, but it is usually one of a small number of causes — and most of them you can resolve without sending anything back. Work down this list in order.
1. The battery is deeply discharged
If a pack has been left flat for weeks, the battery management system may have cut off to protect the cells — sitting at empty is also one of the fastest ways to shorten a battery's usable life. Plug the charger in and leave it for several hours before concluding anything. The charge indicator may stay dark for a while before it wakes up.
2. The charger, not the scooter
Check the charger's own indicator light. Most isinwheel chargers show one colour while charging and another when complete. No light at all usually means the charger or its cable has failed — a far cheaper part to replace than anything on the scooter. Try a different wall socket first to rule that out.
3. A loose or corroded charging port
Inspect the port for bent pins, dirt or moisture. If the scooter has been ridden in rain, let it dry fully before charging — never charge a wet port (there is more on wet and cold conditions in our guide to riding through a European winter). Depending on the model, our scooters are rated IPX4, IP54 or IP65 (the product page gives your model's rating). All three ratings cover rain and wet roads, but not immersion or pressure washing — see what an IPX4 rating actually covers before you take a hose to anything.
4. The folding or safety cable
Cables run through the folding stem and can be pinched or unseated over time, particularly if the scooter is folded and unfolded daily. Check for visible pinching where the stem meets the deck — it is one of the items on our regular maintenance checklist. Do not force a fold that suddenly needs effort.
5. The fuse or main connector
Some models carry an inline fuse near the battery. A blown fuse, or a main battery connector that has worked loose, produces exactly this symptom: total silence, no lights, no display. Do not open the battery compartment to check either one yourself — describe the symptom when you contact us (see below) and we will advise you on the next step.
6. The display or power button itself
If the battery charges normally (the charger's light shows charging, then switches to complete) but the display stays dark, or if the power button feels mushy or unresponsive, the fault is more likely in the display assembly than in the battery. This is a replaceable part.
What to do next
If you have worked through all six and it is still dead, contact us with:
- your order number;
- the model and serial number;
- a short video showing what happens when you press the power button and plug in the charger, including the charger's indicator light.
That video usually lets us identify the part first time, which means we can send it out rather than asking you to ship the whole scooter.
